Pope Francis' encyclical, Laudato Si, Care for our
Common Home, is an inspirational document, a practical document and an
advocacy document, but first and foremost, it is an ethical document. This
webinar will explain how the encyclical is grounded in social justice and how
Pope Francis uses it to call for changes in attitudes, culture and behavior in
order to act on behalf of the poor, the earth, our children and the future.
Speaker Tony Annett, a climate change and sustainable development advisor at
Columbia University's Center for Sustainable Development and Religions for
Peace, will explain how the encyclical suggests that our responsibilities extend
across time as well as space, and that they include the entirety of creation.
"Laudato Si' thus develops a broader notion of solidarity — solidarity
not only within generations, but also, between generations and solidarity not
only with our fellow human beings, but with the whole earth and all its
creatures," he explained in an article published in Commonweal on Aug.
14, 2015.
