In the Pink is a program of Saint Michael's Medical Center. The program goal is to eradicate cancer as a life-threatening disease in our community in alignment with the Saint Michael's Medical Center mission "to provide excellence in health care to the communities we serve, integrating principles of inclusion, educating the next generation of care providers in the Franciscan tradition of compassion, dignity, respect and commitment to poor and marginalized persons."

The program provides outreach, education, screening and treatment for no cost or low cost for women and men. In The Pink Cancer Early Detection and Education Program promotes healthy behavior to underserved persons of the Essex County community.

In The Pink's primary focus is to increase the proportion of age-appropriate men and women who are screened for breast, cervical, colorectal and prostate cancer by:

  • Decreasing barriers to screening and follow-up services.
  • Reaching out to engage high-risk men and women for screening services.
  • Educating the community about the value of cancer screening.
  • Increasing knowledge of cancer screening protocols among health professionals.
  • Providing comprehensive navigation/case management services before during and after the diagnosis of cancer.
