Description
What is distinctively Catholic about a health care work environment? What practices and policies do we implement in a Catholic health care organization that manifest Catholic social principles?
With these questions in mind, the audioconference will explore the Catholic social tradition and the types of practices and policies that can embody this tradition in the Catholic health care organization. The presentation will consider these principles in the context of an organizational model inspired by the Servant Leadership tradition to help illustrate more clearly the role such principles can play in developing effective practices.
Michael Naughton, PhD, associate professor of theology at University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN, will provide an overview of the Catholic social tradition and a mission-driven work environment. Joining Professor Naughton in the dialogue will be Debra Canales, executive vice president for human resources, Trinity Health, and Lola (Lu) Westhoff, executive director, Nazareth Living Center, to discuss potential applications of the Catholic social tradition from their respective perspectives of a health system and long-term care.
