Audioconferences

Community benefit is at the heart of the mission of Catholic and other not-for-profit health care organizations. It is also a legal mandate for tax-exempt hospitals. A systematic approach to community benefit programming demonstrates faithfulness to mission and promotes accountability to communities and policymakers

2008 Community Benefit Audioconferences:

Community Benefit - What Counts?
June 4, 2008
Noon-1:30 p.m. ET

Register today!

Summary
As not-for-profit health care organizations prepare to report their community benefit activities using the revised IRS Form 990, it will be critical to understand how to determine whether an activity is a true community benefit.  This audioconference will describe criteria that organizations can use to assess whether an activity should count as a community benefit.

The audioconference will be led by Keith Hearle, President of Verité Healthcare Consulting. In 1989, Mr. Hearle designed the accounting framework for CHA's Social Accountability Budget, which provided the first comprehensive guidance for hospitals to account for their community benefit activities. Hearle recently helped CHA update the accounting framework and the original worksheets. The new Schedule H, part of the revised Form 990, incorporates some of these worksheets. He is currently working with the IRS on the Schedule H guidelines. Recent questions from CHA's What Counts E-mail Hotline will also be discussed.
