Providence Tarzana receives gift for pediatric unit

The pediatric intensive care unit at Providence Tarzana Medical Center has received a $2 million donation that it will use for a renovation.

The gift from the Phyllis and Angelo R. Mozilo Family Foundation will help to fund a construction project that will move the pediatric ICU to another floor in the hospital, expand it to eight beds from seven and upgrade technology. All the pediatric ICU beds will be in private rooms after the project, and there will be space for family members, including restrooms and a shower area.

Earlier this year, Providence Tarzana launched an $8 million fund-raising campaign to support the pediatric ICU project. The construction is to be completed around 2012.

Angelo Mozilo was a founder of Countrywide Financial Corporation, a mortgage banking company now operating as Bank of America Home Loans. The Mozilo foundation, which is based in Calabasas, Calif., focuses its gifts on health care and education. The charity has supported projects at other Providence Health & Services facilities.
