Grassley thanked "the Catholic Health Association for its continued leadership ... creating and fighting for tough reporting standards for nonprofit hospitals." David Benfer, a CHA board member and chief executive officer, Saint Raphael Healthcare System, New Haven, CT, spoke at the "Roundtable on Non-profit Hospitals" convened by Sen. Charles Grassley, ranking member, U.S. Senate Finance Committee. In his remarks, Benfer said "our outreach, prevention, education and research programs, in my view, are even more important than charity care." He added, "how much the hospital itself spends should not be the issue. What we do for the community and its residents should be the issue."

CHA's Michael Rodgers, senior vice president, advocacy and public policy, spoke at the "Roundtable on Non-profit Hospitals" convened by Sen. Charles Grassley, ranking member, U.S. Senate Finance Committee. In his remarks, Rodgers said that the association agrees "that tax-exempt, not-for-profit hospitals should work to improve health in our communities and help people who cannot afford to pay for health care services get the health care they need," but he added that "we believe legislation is not needed to achieve this goal.” Sen. Grassley thanked "the Catholic Health Association for its continued leadership ... creating and fighting for tough reporting standards for nonprofit hospitals."
