A diverse group of national leadership organizations joined together on July 25, 2007, at a Capitol Hill press conference to call for renewal of the State's Children Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). Coordinated by the Catholic Health Association of the United States, nearly 30 organizations were represented, including prominent health care, labor, business, religious, consumer, and child advocacy groups, and think tanks.

Some of the 535 "SCHIP NOW" bears waiting to be given to each member of Congress as a reminder of our nation's children, and the importance of reauthorizing the State's Children Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). The bears were being distributed on behalf of nearly 30 organizations representing prominent health care, labor, business, religious, consumer, and child advocacy groups, and think tanks. The bears' shirts read "Children need more than bears, they need Health Care. SCHIP NOW!" with an accompanying card that carries the message, "Losing SCHIP Would Be Unbearable."
