Palliative care providers advised to approach their patients reverently

"God means to kill us all in the end," Sr. Margaret Farley, RSM, said, quoting the wry observation of Protestant ethicist Paul Ramsey and drawing a chuckle from an audience of palliative caregivers at the 2010 Supportive Care Coalition Congress.

Joint Commission studies patient handoffs to reduce risk of errors
The emergency department staff stabilizes a patient and moves her along for admission. Then it's on to the next person in a crowded waiting room.

Reducing the risks of health care-associated infections is no laughing matter. Such infections are respon?sible for 100,000 deaths a year in the United States — more than those attributed to AIDS, breast cancer and auto accidents combined.
Ministry leaders in U.S., Germany polish grail of Catholic identity
A select group of ministry leaders, and academics from the U.S. met with their counterparts in Schwerte, Germany, Oct. 28-30 to discuss ways to safeguard, reinforce and advance the mission and Catholic identity of Catholic health care providers.
    Providence Alaska plans major renovations
In January, Providence Alaska Medical Center of Anchorage, Alaska, plans to start a $150.3 million construction project to improve its neonatal intensive care service, cardiac surgery, general surgical, inpatient and outpatient prenatal, and mother-baby care, and other units.
