  • Health care providers target obesity as threat in communities

Obesity rates have been rising rapidly in the U.S. and have reached epidemic levels. But health experts, including those in the ministry, are finding it difficult to get at the heart of the issue and to find an effective solution to it.

Wheaton clinic counts its successes two by two

In April, 2010, Chrissy Pircio — 21 weeks pregnant with twins — found herself lying flat on her back in a rented RV as her husband and brother sped down the highway on a 10-hour trip, from her home near Pittsburgh to Milwaukee in a desperate bid to save her babies' lives.

Duquesne University conference explores immigrants' health and social challenges

As globalization makes the world more interconnected, widespread economic uncertainty and anti-immigration sentiment is creating more barriers to the movement of workers across borders and contributing to a divisive sense of "them and us."

Doctor says crowdsourcing tools can make people healthier

In his seminal book Here Comes Everybody: The Power of Organizing without Organizations, Clay Shirky explores how new technology and social media can foster democracy, stop crime, even build a better kite.

Mercy to invest $4.6 billion in Missouri operations by 2019

Mercy health system of Chesterfield, Mo., has announced it will spend $4.6 billion over the next eight years to enhance its Missouri operations.

Palliative care growing, but many still lack access

Palliative care is one of the fastest-growing services in health care, according to a new report released by the Center to Advance Palliative Care and the National Palliative Care Research Center.

Carondelet receives $4.5 million bequest for hospice, palliative care

The Carondelet Foundation of Tucson, Ariz., has received a $4.5 million donation to bolster the support services it provides to people who need palliative care and hospice services.

Provena and Resurrection receive merger approval from state

Provena Health of Mokena, Ill., and Resurrection Health Care of Chicago have received approval to merge from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board.

Providence Health & Services and Swedish Health Services to affiliate

Providence Health & Services and Swedish Health Services plan to form an affiliation of their Western Washington facilities, potentially by early next year.

Sisters of Charity health system adopts PJP sponsor model

The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth have transferred their health system sponsor role to a newly formed public juridic person.
